PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- For parents with infants, there are certain guidelines to follow to make sure your baby is thriving.

October is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, Awareness Month, spotlighting a condition that the Mayo Clinic describes as the unexpected death of a baby who is usually under a year old.

At OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, the education for parents starts as soon as the birth happens, and even before.

"We start teaching and modeling behaviors for parents to learn newborn care from the minute [the baby is] born," said Lisa Smith, director of women's services for OSF.
