FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Fort Wayne City Council approved a rezoning request for a proposed grocery store in southeast Fort Wayne during their Tuesday meeting.

The applicants, Zu Bein and Ei Kia, say they plan to put a halal grocery store in the former VFW at 6814 S Anthony Blvd., with the possibility of later adding a restaurant.

During a public hearing on the rezoning, some residents expressed concerns about traffic and light pollution disrupting the area. Bein said they are open to studies on traffic and lighting and want the property to be as safe as possible.

Others emailed the Board of Zoning Appeals concerns that the rezoning would "not fit the established character of our community."
