CLEVELAND, Ohio — Councilman Mike Polensek has a message for Clevelanders eager to cruise the streets on golf carts: Don’t call him; his hands are tied.

Once news broke that Mayor Justin Bibb wants to allow businesses to drive golf carts on city streets, Polensek was apparently flooded with calls from residents who want to buy their own carts to zip around trendy neighborhoods like Ohio City, Tremont and the Detroit-Shoreway.

Bibb’s legislation only allows businesses to operate golf carts -- no personal golf carts and no rentals. Polensek wanted to make clear that members of council can’t anoint anyone with the authority to hit the road.
