Sometimes, Deputy District Attorney Ilan Zur told jurors Tuesday, things are as simple as they seem.
“Every single piece of evidence in this case points to one person,” he said.
That person, he said during closing arguments — the individual who fired 16 rounds into a Monroeville police officer’s patrol car last year — is Jamal Brooks. The officer was hit twice and required extensive surgery to reconstruct his elbow.
Mr. Zur pointed to what he called overwhelming evidence: Brooks was arrested in the same area where the shooting happened; two guns, including the one used to shoot at Sgt. James MacDonald, were found near where Brooks was arrested; and Brooks had gunshot residue on his hands.
