SALADO, Texas — A fast-moving wildfire tore through Bell County on Oct. 13 , threatening homes and prompting a massive emergency response before firefighters brought the blaze under control.

The fire, now dubbed the "Gooseberry Fire" after its location near the intersection of Gooseneck and Hackberry Roads, burned 193 acres of ranch land. All threatened homes were saved, and no injuries were reported. As of now, officials say the fire is 100% contained.

"They are also saying that there were 16 homes or structures that were threatened and saved," said Sgt. Corey Powell of the Bell County Sheriff's Office.

Fire retardant was sprayed to protect certain properties as the blaze advanced.

Authorities have identified a possible source of the fire and launched a criminal investigation. Accor
