A Macomb Township attorney and activist said she was released from an Israeli prison Sunday and will be returning to Michigan soon.
Huwaida Arraf, who holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Israel and is of Palestinian descent, announced on her Facebook page that she was released Sunday evening. She had been jailed since being detained by the Israel military on Oct. 8 on a ship that was attempting to deliver supplies to Gaza.
Arraf was freed after Israel and Hamas agreed to release prisoners and hostages in what President Donald Trump called the "first phase" of a U.S. plan to restore peace in Gaza. On Monday, Hamas released the last 20 living hostages while Israel released 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
