CLINTON COUNTY, Ill. (First Alert 4) -Unidentified human remains were found in Clinton County on Friday, according to a release from the sheriff’s department on Tuesday.

In a statement, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department states that human remains were found near Centralia in unincorporated Clinton County.

Detectives and deputies responded to the scene and found the remains. The Clinton County coroner and an Illinois State Police crime scene investigator also responded to the scene.

It is unclear how long the remains had been in the location before they were found and what might have been the cause of death.

The sheriff’s department does not believe the remains are from local missing cases near Centralia.
