WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita City Council approved $145,000 to support public art projects at local branch libraries on Tuesday.
The funding will be used for an outdoor Story Walk at the Alford Library and for interior murals at the Walters Branch Library, part of the city's plan to enhance cultural arts.
Initially, $50,000 was set aside for library art projects. An additional $95,000, allocated initially for art on 21st Street, was redirected to the library.
Artists for the library projects will be chosen through a public application process, with concept designs needing approval from the Design Council and City Council.
The outdoor Story Walk will be developed during renovations at the Alford Library, while the Walters Branch will use blank panels for the murals.
