WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A preliminary hearing will take place Wednesday in Marion County for former Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody.
Cody is charged with interference with the judicial process following the investigation into the police department and the search warrant used in a raid on the Marion County Record newspaper in August 2023.
The raid also happened at the homes of the Record publisher Eric Meyer and his mother Joan Meyer, and a city official.
Cody allegedly told a witness in that case to delete text messages before investigators could see them. The witness is a business owner, and the newspaper was investigating the owner's driving record.
Police suspected the paper had committed fraud in doing so, but special prosecutors found that suspicion to be unfounded.
