WILLISTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Chittenden County may be getting a new recycling center within the next couple of years.

The Williston Development Review Board on Tuesday approved a request by the Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSWD) to build a 68,750 square-foot Materials Recycling Facility in a lightly populated, forested part of the town off Redmond Road.

The facility, once built, will be used to sort blue-bin recycling - bottles, boxes, cans, and other items - and prepare it to be shipped to market.

The vote was unanimous, with board members praising CSWD's hard work to supply all the information they wanted.

CSWD manages waste for the more than 160,000 residents of Chittenden County. The district is hoping to replace the current smaller facility on Avenue C.
