CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Over three dozen Florida school districts received a false report of a bomb threat Tuesday as a part of a "swatting" email thread, police in Citrus County said.

The Citrus County School District sent out a message from Citrus School Police Chief Rachel Montgomery Tuesday night alerting parents to the situation.

Montgomery said the school district was one of at least 46 that received the same email with a false report of a bomb threat. The email did not include any specific details or direct threats to any individual school campus, according to authorities.

"There is no indication that this is a credible threat to our schools," Montgomery said. "We wanted to inform our parents directly to prevent the spread of rumors or misinformation."
