EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - In Evansville, The University of Southern Indiana hosted its annual “Flowers on the Lake” ceremony Tuesday.

The event is put on by the Sexual Assault and Gender Violence Prevention Group and is meant to honor Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Several people spoke, then the group went to Reflection Lake where they put flowers in the water and rang a bell 83 times to remember victims and honor survivors.

“If you have a friend who is experiencing it, the best thing you can do is be there for your friend,” says Abby Sink, Community and Volunteer Coordinator at Albion Fellow Bacon Center. “Recognizing I can’t force you to talk about this, but you know I’m here.
