MONTROSE, Colo. (KKTV) - The 7th Judicial District Attorney announced on Tuesday that a man who was originally facing 84 misdemeanor charges of animal abuse has had his charges upgraded to felonies.

On May 31, the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said an investigation was opened after a report of a dead horse on a property on 5875 Road.

An officer with MCSO Animal Control then spoke with the suspect, identified by the sheriff’s office as 61-year-old Scott Flores, and took several pictures of horses on his property.

Deputies say animal control then received a report of a second dead horse on the same property on June 12, and the Bureau of Animal Protection (BAP) and Colorado Department of Agriculture were contacted to assist with the investigation.
