PEKIN ( 25News Now ) - According to the Tazewell County Veterans Assistance Commission in Pekin, some veterans are calling for financial help after not receiving checks.
The commission is reporting that a few veterans are asking for help with their rent and mortgages, although the office does not help with mortgages.
Commission Superintendent Steven Sall said he is not too concerned yet, but this government shutdown is different from the more than a month-long shutdown in 2018.
“In 2018, I did not have any inquiries at all,“ Sall said. ”This is the first time that I’ve had inquiries. Hopefully, it will come to an end soon, and we need to take care of our veterans, because they took care of us.”
