Plymouth’s plan to build a “new town” of 10,000 homes in city centre tower blocks may not be financially viable without substantial government support, according to a report from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. The New Town Taskforce described the project as financially “challenging” until demand for city centre living can be proven.
The 135-page report outlines proposals for a dozen new town sites across the country, including Plymouth. It envisions 10,000 homes across multiple sites, with architects considering 30 tower blocks in the city centre, which currently has around 1,000 homes.
