A man accused of pointing a fake gun at a police officer and members of the public during a carjacking spree has been denied bail.

Simon Michael Davies, 48, appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link from the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

He has been charged with 12 offences including possessing an imitation firearm, which he allegedly used in multiple carjackings, attempted aggravated burglary, assault and threats to kill during an alleged crime spree over multiple days.

He is accused of assaulting a man at a BP convenience store, and trying to steal a Honda Civic before carjacking a Mitsubishi SUV, while presenting a small black firearm.
