ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man surrendered after allegedly shooting an officer and barricading himself inside a Sandy Springs home on Tuesday, according to the city’s police department.
The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Herbert Mesa, was shot by officers who returned fire, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The GBI said the Sandy Springs Police Department has asked it to investigate the incident, which is protocol for shootings involving officers.
Sandy Springs police said they were called to a home in the area of Carroll Manor Drive and North River Parkway at around 11:10 a.m. for reports of gunfire.
