The main charge, and a fair one, against freshly fired Penn State football coach James Franklin was that he never beat the best teams on his schedule.

Well, that and the fact that he just became the first coach since 1978 and maybe much longer to lose back-to-back games as a favorite of at least 20 points. But let’s not get bogged down here.

Let’s stick to the point. Franklin’s record against top-10 teams (4-21) was an absolute joke, and here’s the punch line: The odds-on favorite to replace him is even worse in that respect.
