A British woman has tragically died following a crash on a notorious Spanish road.

The 72-year-old was involved in a collision on the N-332 in Santa Pola, near Alicante, on Tuesday afternoon (October 14).

Emergency services attended the crash around 2pm, close to a junction for the Santa Pola lighthouse.

The Guardia Civil believes the woman was driving a car towards Alicante which veered onto the opposite carriageway and hit a motorhome.

Reports in Santa Pola say the woman suffered a cardiac arrest, having initially been found conscious following the crash.

She sadly died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services, the Mirror reports.
