A Canadian man has been convicted of murder in the bloody slaying of his 24-year-old girlfriend on a remote Scottish island.
Aren Pearson, 41, stabbed Claire Leveque to death in a hot tub at his mother’s home in the Shetland Islands. Leveque was also a Canadian.
He was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years in prison.
The incident occurred on Feb. 11, 2024, ending what Pearson had testified was a relationship that quickly turned “toxic” when alcohol was involved. The couple had met in Edmonton and moved to the windswept islands in October 2023.
During the trial, Pearson denied murdering his longtime paramour, insisting that she had stabbed herself to death in a drunken, suicidal gesture.
However, the jury wasn’t buying Pearson’s narrative and he was convicted in the High Court in Edinburgh
