UPDATE: Oct 14, 2025: The Trump administration sent dismissal notices to between 1,100 and 1,200 HHS employees, according to a document filed on Friday in a court case over the shutdown-driven layoffs.

However, the HHS has since rolled back some of the firings, reinstating hundreds of staff that were fired from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the agency where the terminations were concentrated.

Approximately 700 CDC workers were reinstated on Saturday, while another 600 remain affected, according to the American Federation of Government Employees, a union representing federal workers. An HHS official said the reinstated employees had incorrectly received termination notices due to a glitch in the system.
