HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A bear-y important alert from the Hudson City Police Department was released early Wednesday morning. HPD reported sightings of a black bear in the area of Rip Van Winkle Road and Rossman Avenue, and its asking residents to remain cautious.
The police department said not only did it receive reports of sightings, but some patrol officers also spotted the bear in the area. The bear reportedly ran off before officers could get a closer look, but HPD is still offering some tips to err on the side of caution after these sightings.
Police advise residents to keep pets inside, secure trash cans, and avoid leaving food outside. It also says not to approach the bear, but rather call the department if you see it.
