A jury on Wednesday morning convicted an Aliquippa man of attempted murder in the shooting of a Monroeville police sergeant in 2024.
Jamal Brooks, 33, showed no reaction as the jury of eight women and four men delivered their verdict. Testimony in the case, which began last week, wrapped up late Tuesday afternoon. Jurors deliberated less than three hours total.
Brooks represented himself in the case, arguing to jurors simply that he wasn’t the man who fired 16 rounds into Sgt. James MacDonald’s patrol car Jan. 3, 2024. The sergeant was shot in the elbow and buttock, and he required extensive surgery to repair his shattered elbow.
