The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed displeasure over the Centre's stance on the method of execution. The government refused to accept the suggestion, which stated that death row convicts should be given the option of lethal injection instead of hanging.

In fact, a public interest litigation (PIL) had sought to replace the traditional method of hanging with lethal injection or to give the right to choose between the two.

Advocate Rishi Malhotra, appearing for the petitioner, said- 'At least the convicted prisoner should be given the option of whether he wants hanging or lethal injection. Lethal injection is quick, humane, and dignified. Hanging is a cruel, inhuman, and prolonged agonizing process.'
