THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Railways has issued an order to extend the Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai Amrita Express to Rameswaram from tomorrow. The 16343/16344 Thiruvananthapuram-Madurai Express, which will depart from Thiruvananthapuram at 8:30 pm from tomorrow, will reach Madurai at 9:50 am the next day. The train will reach Rameswaram at 12:45 pm. The train, which will return from Rameswaram at 1:30 pm on the same day, will reach Thiruvananthapuram at 4:55 am the next day.
There is less chance of technical-traffic problems as Rameswaram has a pit line and signal system that can service and repair eight trains. The railways decided to extend the Amrita Express to Rameswaram after the opening of the new Pamban Bridge here.
