A proposal to lower speed limits on residential and collector roads in Stratford is not dead yet.

On Tuesday, council supported a motion from Coun. Larry McCabe to have staff bring back another costing report for reducing the speed limit on these roads from 50 kilometres per hour to 40 km/h, along with a possible pilot project in Stratford’s Avondale area.

This decision came after a presentation from Kate Mulrooney of Climate Momentum, the resident who is leading the push for slower speed limits in the Festival City. When she moved to the area of Nile and Brunswick streets, Mulrooney explained, she did not realize how she “would have to shoot out the door and rescue people who had been in collisions at that corner.”
