BUFFALO, N.Y. — Boaters were rescued from the Niagara River Wednesday after a sailboat partially capsized.

The United States Coast Guard and Buffalo Fire were called to a report of a boat taking on water near the Peace Bridge Wednesday afternoon. Two people were on the boat at the time and wearing life vests.

Because of the shallow waters in that portion of the Niagara River, the Buffalo Fire water rescue boats were unable to access the sailboat. A private boat offered to help and transported Buffalo Fire personnel to the sailboat and rescue the two boaters.

The boaters were brought safely to shore at the Erie Basin Marina to be evaluated by EMS.

Both occupants were safely brought to shore and returned to Erie Basin Marina for evaluation.
