A man who murdered his girlfriend by stabbing her at least 26 times in a remote Scottish island home has been jailed for life.

Evil Aren Pearson, 41, was found guilty of killing Claire Leveque, 24, in the Sandness area of Shetland on the afternoon of February 11, 2024. Claire was discovered in a hot tub at Pearson's mother's home after suffering at least 26 stab wounds, the High Court in Edinburgh heard. Jurors were told 19 of the wounds were inflicted on Claire’s face and neck.

The couple, both originally from Canada, had moved to Scotland in 2023. The deadly attack came at the end of a campaign of domestic abuse which Pearson had waged against Claire, whom he claimed to "love".
