BISMARCK — North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley issued a warning Wednesday, Oct. 15, urging residents to beware of gold-buying scams.

According to a release from Wrigley’s office, scammers are impersonating government officials and trying to convince people to purchase and transfer gold bars as a means to protect their money. Scammers use false urgency and threats to "create panic and fear," the release said. Some also send false documents to bolster their claims.

Scammers instruct people to buy gold bars, then hand the gold over to a government official for safekeeping, the release said. The gold is never returned once handed over.
