MTV will stop broadcasting on five music channels in the United Kingdom, according to reports.

MTV will be shutting down MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live channels on Dec. 31, BBC and Newsweek reported.

MTV HD in the UK will remain on air, and as of right now, MTV channels in the United States will continue to air.

MTV launched in the United States in 1981, branding itself as a station that aired music videos 24/7. As a result of its growing popularity, it expanded to MTV Europe in 1987 and got its own channel in the UK in 1997.
