DEER LODGE, Mont. – The Montana State Prison suffered a water leak that disrupted water services for inmates. Temporary amenities were put in place for inmates while the Montana Department of Corrections attempts to fix the problem.
The leak was caused by a water pipe break on October 10, 2025. On their webpage about the break , Montana State Prison said they acted immediately.
“We took a step forward today by confirming where several leaks were located,” DOC Director Brian Gootkin said in an October 14 update. “Even though we found these leaks, we are still working to repair them and resolve the situation for inmates. We’re going to continue evaluating the system and sourcing water and resources for the facility."
