Not one but three leaks have been located in the Montana State Prison's water system as officials and consultants there continue efforts to remedy a situation that's lasted five days since supply troubles were first identified.

In a press release issued Tuesday evening, the Montana Department of Corrections said it was proceeding its search for any additional leaks but noted the confirmation of three breaks in the system was a strong step forward.

"Even though we found these leaks, we are still working to repair them and resolve the situation for inmates," DOC Director Brian Gootkin said in a statement. "We're going to continue evaluating the system and sourcing water and resources for the facility."

The department has not yet identified what caused the leaks.
