TEMPE, Ariz. — Tempe Mayor Corey Woods issued a state of emergency Wednesday after his city was wrecked by a destructive microburst on Monday.

The mayor's declaration allows Tempe to seek assistance from county and state officials to assist in recovery efforts after parts of the city sustained significant damage from the weather event.

"The scope and severity of the damage have exceeded the capabilities of local resources, requiring the mobilization of additional assistance at the county and state level," the mayor's declaration states. "Such additional assistance is needed to adequately respond and address the effects of the microburst and the resulting disaster therefrom."
