A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his grandmother after she stopped him from drinking alcohol. The accused has been identified as Ashish Saini (22), a resident of Street No. 11, Gupta Colony in Mohali. After the alleged crime, Ashish reportedly fled the spot. Police have registered a case and begun investigations.

Station House Officer (SHO) Sumeet Mor said that the accused’s mother, Veena Saini, reported the incident. She told police that her husband and elder son were out of the house at the time, while her mother-in-law Gurbachan Kaur (85) and son Ashish were at home.

“Ashish was addicted to alcohol, and the family often tried to stop him from drinking,” Veena told police. In her statement, Veena said that when she returned home in the evening, the room was locked from inside.
