SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - As temperatures drop in mid-October, it's important to prepare your lawns for the impending winter season.

With leaves falling and cooler weather setting in, it's crucial to winterize your lawn and garden to prevent damage and ensure a healthy start next spring. This includes servicing sprinkler systems, continuing to mow and clear leaves, and applying fertilizer.

"Time to get your sprinkler system serviced and winterized," said Gary Courchesne of G & H Landscaping. "Shut the water off inside and have a contractor come in and do the winterization so the lines and the valves don't freeze outside."
