KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Uncertainty remains surrounding the abrupt absence of Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons.

Simmons unexpectedly missed Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions after having to go back to his hometown of San Diego, California to deal with a family matter.

The matter appears to be very serious, as head coach Andy Reid declined to give any details regarding the situation.

"As far as the Josh Simmons situation goes, I'm not going to comment on it today. [Brett] Veach is handling everything there. We'll leave it at that," Reid said on Wednesday.

Patrick Mahomes also remained tight-lipped about the situation, but indicated he has spoken with Simmons.

"I'll keep conversations kind of between us, but I'm always praying for him," Mahomes said.
