The District of Central Saanich has chosen the site of its new municipal facilities at a contentious parcel of land located on Hovey Road near Centennial Park.

The district says it plans to build a three-storey building at the property which will contain the Central Saanich municipal hall, the Central Saanich Police Department headquarters, the Central Saanich fire station 2, and a new recreation centre.

The location and concept for the building was the “most popular” out of the four options it posed to the public, according to the municipality, and includes spaces for recreation activities and gathering.

The district says the Peninsula Recreation Commission (PRC) is looking at opening and operating a 10,000-square-foot recreation centre at the site, which may include a weight room, art
