NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana is reducing the number of standardized tests for public school students, a move that supports a broader initiative by State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley to streamline standardized testing across all grades,
Starting in the 2026-27 school year, high schoolers will take four state tests instead of six. Instead of two separate tests in English and math, students will take one combined test for each at the end of 10th grade. They'll also take tests in biology and civics.
The state has already reduced tests for grades 3–8. In 2024, English and math tests for those grades were trimmed by 20%. In 2025, social studies tests were cut in half and are now only given in grades 3, 5, and 8. Officials are also looking at reducing science testing.
