DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Durham police investigators said 28-year-old Abdul-Jalil Burnette was shot around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a bus stop next to the Village Shopping Center on Raynor Street in east Durham.

Burnette's grandmother told CBS 17 she got the call and rushed to the scene.

"It's only young kids that are getting killed, so I wish, anyway possible, that they can do something to stop it," Vanissa Gibbs said.

Police said Burnette was transported to the hospital where he later died. Family members said the shooting happened after an argument over a cellphone.

"I'm against gun violence, period," Gibbs said. "There's too many people out here getting killed, and so I'm against it."

Family also told CBS 17 that Burnette's brother, 18-year-old Suliman Nazir Burnette, was shot and kill
