DENMARK, Wis. (WBAY) - Groundbreaking for a new community center and library in the Village of Denmark began on Wednesday.

The building will offer things like a fitness center, business and community meeting and rental spaces, a community pantry, and more.

It’s a project that’s been years in the making, as residents provided input about what should be included in the space to meet community needs.

Officials say libraries aren’t just buildings meant to be filled with books.

“I think libraries aren’t just books. I think they are stories. I think libraries help our residents in our communities write those stories for themselves,” says state librarian Ben Miller. “This is where kids can come after school. They can become inspired to become an artist, a poet.”
