CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The U.S. government shutdown has entered its third week as lawmakers remain at an impasse, with the Senate rejecting the House-passed funding bill for the eighth time on Tuesday.
This shutdown is now the fifth-longest in U.S. history, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has warned that it could become the longest ever recorded.
"The request that we have is simple: expand and extend the tax credits for 24 million Americans who are likely to see huge increases in their premiums in the next few weeks if we don't do this," said Congressman Richard Neal.
Democrats are insisting on including tax breaks for Americans who purchase insurance through the Affordable Care Act in the spending bill. They argue that these measures are crucial to prevent significant premium i
