It was a competitive weekend for bass fishing as the Americans took the top three spots in the Canadian Tire Lake Erie Open Bass Tournament on Saturday. Perch are showing up in Lake Erie. The Niagara River salmon run is starting to wane.

Lake Erie and tributaries

It was a good week for Capt. Joe Fonzi of Thumbs Up Charters on Lake Erie. Water temperatures remain warm in the mid-60s and fall fishing is in full swing with all species moving onto deep rock structures. Last week while bass fishing, Fonzi found large perch, walleye and bass all on the same structure in 32 to 45 feet of water. The walleye fishing remains incredible, either by trolling or using forward-facing sonar to jig baits in depths from 65 to 120 feet of water. You can still find bouncer fish on shallower structures, too.
