BOSTON (WPRI) — Boston's iconic CITGO sign will soon be moved from its spot overlooking Kenmore Square — but it's not going far.

The sign will be lifted 30 feet higher and shifted 120 feet to the east so it will remain visible within the city's changing skyline, according to the developers.

The CITGO sign as Boston knows it has sat atop the roof of a building off Beacon Street since 1965. The original sign, installed back in 1940, featured Cities Service's green trefoil logo and was updated to the red trimark logo when the oil company rebranded to CITGO.

The repositioning and restoration process includes the construction of a new truss that will be built into the sign's existing anchor platform. The developers assured Bostonians that the sign's overall height and dimensions will remain
