Taxpayers from South Bend and New Carlisle are pushing back against a proposed data center, citing environmental concerns and a preference for keeping the land in agriculture. Protest organizer Steve Francis, a Sustainable Energy and Economic Development Consultant, said, “The county council needs to stand up for those of us who live here, not for outsiders using our natural resources.” Residents gathered outside the County City Building on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to voice frustration, even though a rezoning vote for the site was postponed. Councilman Randy Figg said he has received more public feedback on this project than any other in his three years on the council, including about 85 emails and one phone call.
