ST. LOUIS — After a man fatally shot himself on a street in St. Louis early Tuesday, another man picked up the gun and walked away with it, according to court documents.
Eric Earl Davis was charged Wednesday with unlawful possession of a firearm. Police say he is a felon barred from having a gun.
Davis, 34, is accused of taking the gun that a man had just used to kill himself near Hodiamont and Cote Brilliante avenues. It happened just before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.
Police first thought it was a homicide because they arrived and found no weapon near the victim. Police even put a message out on Twitter that homicide detectives were summoned.
