DONALDSONVILLE, La. (WAFB) - For the first time in over 25 years, developers have their eyes on a new subdivision in Donaldsonville, awaiting approval from the Planning and Zoning Commission Oct. 16. The proposed $8 million project is generating mixed reactions as the community prepares for industrial growth, including the new Hyundai Steel mill and CF Industries ammonia plant; both set to be operational by 2029.

The 187-lot development would be split among 50 acres of sugarcane fields on the west side of Loop 945 St., according to real estate developer Tommy Veenendaal of T. Veenendaal Real Estate.

“Industries coming in and expanding, one thing that they were lacking was affordable housing over there — they need housing in order to grow Donaldsonville,” Veenendaal said.
