BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The annual Halloween parade is set to roll this weekend in Baton Rouge, but organizers are grappling with an unexpected financial burden that could jeopardize future community celebrations.
The Baton Rouge Police Department will now charge nonprofits for security work during parades due to the city’s ongoing budget constraints. The nonprofits all agree that providing safe fun is a must, but the new BRPD charge is cutting into their annual budgets, and some fear this may be their last year rolling.
“How’s it been? Stressful,” said Kelley Stein, co-founder of 10/31 Consortium, with a laugh.
