After Rep. Seth Moulton announced his decision to run for U.S. Senate against fellow Democrat Ed Markey , he spoke to NBC10 Boston about the long-awaited decision.

Moulton homed in on the incumbent's nearly 50-year congressional career.

"We cannot afford to wait another six years for new leadership in the Democratic Party," he said. "Look at what the status quo has gotten us."

In his campaign launch video, Moulton called Markey "a good man," but quickly added, "it's time for change." The primary is slated for Sept. 1, 2026.

"I don't believe someone who has been in elected office for half a century, longer than you or I have been alive, is really about investing in the future," Moulton said in the interview. "
