PENOBSCOT COUNTY -- An issue related to the Penobscot County budget continues to be finding sufficient funding to move forward with a new Penobscot County Jail. While many municipal leaders and stakeholders agree that the new facility is necessary, the issue of how to fully fund it remains unsolved.
Sheriff Troy Morton told the county commissioners today that, though he doesn't want to make the jail a political issue, it should be something that gubernatorial candidates address.
"I hope that during this election process, not to get political on this, but there's an opportunity, no matter what side or party you are looking at, to speak to these potential governors and talk about taking care of county funding.
