HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut Attorney General William Tong has joined a new coalition looking to disrupt the plans of President Donald Trump’s administration.

On Wednesday, Tong joined 17 other attorneys general who are opposing the Trump Administration’s proposal to require colleges and universities to submit data linking race to admissions, financial aid and student performance.

In a release from his office, Tong notes that the Department of Education claims to be seeking the data to help enforce Title VI, which prohibits discrimination based on race.

The coalition argues in its letter that the proposed data collection would require colleges and universities to undertake new, costly and burdensome efforts in an unrealistic timeframe. The attorneys general say that it is unlikely to
